GEN5X 18V Hybrid Upright Light from RIDGID. This working light features a weighted-base design to self-right its position when knocked over and extended battery run-time.

Tectronic Industries wanted to introduce a full line of LED powered work lights as a brand new series of SKUs. With many work lights on the market, it was important to leverage power and portability with Ridgid's reliable 18v battery platform while staying flexible with the plug-in hybrid system. Overall the line helped increase market share into the work lighting category by competing directly with many standard wired-only options. The line also increased customer lifetime value as lighting is used more regularly even beyond traditional jobsite uses.

Overview

After receiving the core elements from engineering, we built the concept around our 18v battery plug-in hybrid chassis. The bucket-style design allowed the power source to stay enclosed from the elements and didn't compromise the self-righting capability. Also, the rugged, precise, stealth, and professional qualities of the Ridgid visual brand language executed well on the rounded buoy-like form.

"I'm an electrician by trade and as electricians we always work in the dark. I picked up this light to use while wiring basements. I have to say it works great. I just set it in the middle of the work area and turn it on. I don't have to worry about knocking it over while pulling wire, because it just spins around and doesn't fall over. It's bright and very durable. You can use a battery which has a very good run time or you can plug in a cord. The light is dimmable and you can also wrap your cord around it for storage. Great idea and a great product."
